Allow computer science to satisfy a
core graduation requirement
In December 2013, the State Board of Education approved a motion that allows Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A to officially count as a student's fourth mathematics credit for high school graduation in Alabama. Also, Alabama Act #2019-389 requires the ALSDE to identify approved secondary and postsecondary computer science courses that meet the definitions outlines for computer science course instruction and that may fulfill one mathematics or science high school graduation requirement. In accordance with the Act, beginning with the class of 2020, successful completion of the approved secondary computer science courses may be used to fulfill these requirements.
